Dizzy Gillespie (1917–1993) was an American jazz trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and one of the key figures in the development of bebop and modern jazz. Known for his virtuosic technique, bent trumpet, and puffed cheeks, Gillespie combined complex harmonies with lightning-fast improvisation. He was also instrumental in fusing Afro-Cuban music with jazz, helping to create Latin jazz. Beyond his technical brilliance, Gillespie was a charismatic performer whose humor and showmanship helped bring jazz to wider audiences.
